'Don't call 911' sign prompts call to 911

Whitefish Police received a call from a citizen who was offended by a vendor’s sign at a local outdoor market on Tuesday. The sign said, ‘Don’t call 911’ and included a replica of a gun. The caller decided to call 911 anyway because he or she believed the sign was “sending the wrong message to people.” Well maybe. Or maybe, “Don’t call 911” was just the right message.

Theft was reported on Colorado Avenue when a woman called to say that her vehicle had been gone through and her marriage license and possibly some Social Security cards were missing from the glove box. No explanation was provided as to why a marriage license and multiple Social Security cards might be in the glove box in the first place.

Criminal mischief was reported Wednesday on Park Avenue when the reporting party’s satellite TV lines were cut and about 8 feet of line was missing. 


The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded when a man came home to a pig-sty Wednesday on Rhodes Draw. Apparently, neighbors have repeatedly allowed their farm animals on the reporting party’s property, and that day the neighbors’ pigs had come over and made a muck of the yard. 

Officers assisted a citizen who had corralled a loose horse in her yard on Addison Trail early Wednesday morning. The horse was returned safely to its owner. 

A suspicious call came from a location on Harbin Hill Road when a man stated that a contractor came to his house Tuesday and offered to resurface the caller’s driveway. According to the caller, the contractor was very “high-pressure” and the caller believed he was scamming people, because when he told the contractor he couldn’t afford the work, he got angry and “changed his attitude.” 

Criminal mischief was reported on Tally Drive and Farm to Market Road. Several mailboxes were destroyed or damaged and street signs were also vandalized. 

A woman brought threatening notes left on her vehicle to police on Wednesday. The notes were reportedly left by her neighbor. 

A motorcycle was stolen from a location on Canyon Road in Hungry Horse sometime Tuesday night. The motorcycle is described as a PW50 2000 model. 

Several windows were busted out of a business on Adams Street in Lakeside. 

Road rage turned violent Wednesday on Geners Trail when a driver pulled in front of the reporting party’s vehicle and stopped him and then proceeded to get out and punch the person in the face and kick him. After taking a few punches, the caller hit his assailant with a pipe. Apparently not expecting a counter-assault, the troublemaker took off in a silver Dodge. 

A man reported trespassing at his home near Bear Lake Road when he noticed vehicles driving on his driveway and going through his gate to ride their bikes to a nearby park. It turns out the subjects had actually cut the lock on the gate to access the trail. 

Officers assisted a citizen who had a bat in the sun room of their home. No human or animal contact was made with the bat and it was disposed of. 

An assault was reported on Willow Glen Drive when a man at that location threatened a woman and “bashed her head into the door.” The man also threatened to use a gun against the woman and the reporting party, her husband. The victim did not want to press charges, but wanted law enforcement to give a warning to the suspect. 

A woman who is extremely afraid of snakes faced her worst nightmare Wednesday when a garter snake came into her home with her dog after he was outside. Officers kindly removed the snake from the woman’s kitchen. 


Columbia Falls Police received a report Wednesday of a woman who was trying to obtain a fraudulent passport. 

A father got a scare Wednesday afternoon when his 9-year-old son went rafting down the river with a friend and was missing for about an hour. Thankfully, the boys were located safely on the river near Nucleus Avenue. 

A hit and run occurred when a vehicle struck a 15-year-old bicyclist and took off. The car was described as a red Toyota Camry with Minnesota license plates. The bicyclist was OK, except for minor bumps and bruises. 

Officers counseled a person who lost $2,000 through an online scam and referred the person to call a hotline for Internet scams. 


Citations were issued by the Kalispell Police Department after a hit-and-run occurred Wednesday on Third Avenue East North. 

Snakes stirred up some trouble on Appleway Drive on Thursday, forcing a woman to call police about all of the creatures coming on to her property from a nearby creek.

A kind patron dropped off stuffed animals at the station to donate for distribution by the officers. 

Two shoplifters were in custody for theft on Hutton Ranch Road. 

A suspicious man was sitting inside his vehicle for about three hours and a strong smell of marijuana was coming from the vehicle, located on U.S. 2 West. The man received a citation. 

A man stole a case of beer from a location on West Idaho Street. 

A different man stole a bunch of deli food from a location on Third Avenue East North early Thursday morning. 

Vandalism was reported at a baseball complex in Kalispell.
