SANDPOINT — Following a council vote Wednesday, Sandpoint Fire Chief Ron Stocking’s time will be split between the Sagle Fire District and Sandpoint Fire Department.

Council members voted 5-1 to approve a memorandum of understanding with Sagle Fire District splitting Stocking’s time between the two districts. In return, Sagle Fire District will pay for half the chief’s salary and benefits, which amount to $8,424 in total. If all goes smoothly, city officials said the agreement could transition into a full combination of the two fire districts.
