MOSES LAKE - A Moses Lake man who allegedly led police on a high speed pursuit in a stolen Corvette Thursday afternoon was found hiding under a deck at a Moses Lake home.

Gary Hutt, 41, was allegedly driving a stolen 2003 Chevrolet Corvette and reached speeds of more than 125 mph during a pursuit Thursday afternoon near Moses Lake before abandoning the vehicle on Hillcrest Drive Northeast. Sheriff's deputies searched the area for several hours but were initially unable to locate Hutt.

A neighbor a few houses down from where the vehicle was abandoned reportedly searched his property on Lybbert Drive a second time before heading out of town and noticed a tarp underneath the deck of his home. Moses Lake police were still on scene and found Hutt hiding underneath the tarp, according to the sheriff's office. The neighbor told police the tarp was not under the deck earlier during the search.

Sheriff's Office motor traffic units first located the Corvette about 1 p.m. near North Grape Drive. The car was reportedly stolen from nearby Thursday morning.

Hutt allegedly took off at a high rate of speed when police attempted to stop the vehicle. He allegedly headed north on state Route 17, reaching speeds of about 90 mph before turning east on Road 10 Northeast, according to the sheriff's office.

Hutt continued east on Road 10 at about 125 mph until he turned south onto Stratford Road Northeast and then east on Road 7 Northeast, nearly colliding with Sheriff Tom Jones' patrol vehicle at one point and almost striking several construction workers chip sealing in the area.

Deputies continued to follow the vehicle onto Ferguson Road Northeast when the driver headed off road through a field and pond, onto a bike path and then continued south back into Moses Lake, finally abandoning the vehicle on Hillcrest Drive Northeast after reportedly driving through a fence. A State Patrol airplane was launched and troopers reportedly last saw Hutt flee north along a fence line, but lost sight of him, according to the sheriff's office.

Hutt was booked into Grant County Jail Thursday afternoon. Booking information was not yet available as police were still obtaining witness statements Thursday evening.
