EPHRATA - An inmate escaped from the Grant County Jail Sunday morning and was later apprehended at a home in Moses Lake.
Jamie D. Hampshire, 29, of Moses Lake escaped from the jail at about 10 a.m., as another inmate was being released, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office. Hampshire was located about two hours later at a home on Road 4 Northeast.
Hampshire was being held on felony theft charges stemming from an incident Thursday at Walmart in Moses Lake, where he allegedly stole several hundred dollars worth of DVDs to re-sell.
He is also awaiting trial on charges of residential burglary, forgery and theft from a separate incident in May, according to court records.
The sheriff's office is still investigating how Hampshire was able to escape, Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones said.
"This was a great coordinated effort between Ephrata Police Department and Grant County Sheriff's Office resulting in a quick apprehension of the suspect," Jones said.
