Local golfers qualify for state tourney

CLE ELUM - Ephrata's Aaron Whalen and Moses Lake's Brody Milbrandt qualified for the Washington Junior Gold Association's Championship Tournament recently.
The pair competed in the Washington Junior Golf District 4 Championships at Suncadia Resort.
Whalen finished first in the Boys 16-17 division with a total score of 145.
Milbrandt finished third with a score of 155, tying East Wenatchee's Griffin Parsons.
Kennewick's Austin Brown finished second behind Whalen with a two-round score of 153
The first round was played on the Prospector Course in clear conditions. The next day's round was played on the Rope Rider Course in rainy conditions.
Surprisingly, Whalen improved on his first round score of 73 by shooting a 72 in the rain.
Milbrandt shot an opening round 75 and finished with an 80 the next day.
The Championship Tournament will be played in Spokane at Manito Golf and Country Club, Hangman Valley Golf Club and Wandermere Golf Club from Aug. 6 through the 8.
