COLUMBIA FALLS — The Glacier All-Stars took another step closer to capturing the Pacific Northwest Regional U14 Babe Ruth baseball tournament on Thursday with an emphatic 13-0 win over Calgary.
David Brown and Logan Kolodejchuk had doubles for Glacier to lead the charge offensively.
“Everybody hit really well. It was a good team win” Glacier head coach Chad Green said.
13 runs were more than enough for Austin Green, who threw a complete game one-hitter. Glacier didn’t commit an error while winning the game by mercy-rule in six innings.
A win today should put the host team in the championship round with a chance to go to the U14 World Series in Ocala, Fla., Aug 15-22.
The Kalispell All-Stars were off to a fast start after Wednesday’s 2-0 day, but they were humbled during their only contest on Thursday.
Kalispell lost to Spokane Inland Select 12-0 and now have an identical 2-1 record as Glacier.
Pivotal games take place today with Glacier facing Moses Lake (Wash.) at Memorial Stadium in Whitefish while Kalispell will play Klamath Falls (Ore.) at Sapa-Johnsrud Field in Columbia Falls. Both games are scheduled for 5 p.m.
