A love of books, moose
Nils Rosdahl | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 10 years, 11 months AGO
The Well-Read Moose is much more than a bookstore. Located in a 2,700-square-foot space at 2048 N. Main St. in Riverstone, yes, it does sell books, with an inventory of about 15,000.
This includes books of every type, with local and Northwest authors, and a major children's section with board books, crafts and cooperative family games. With a wine bar, the store will host author signings, book clubs and be a leisure area where friends can meet or parents can wait for kids at the nearby movie theater.
The soft opening is Saturday, and the grand opening with special events, including Cat in the Hat, is June 12-15. Regular hours are 7 a.m. (with coffee) to 9 p.m. daily. The owner is Melissa DeMotte, who says she has always liked moose - hence the store's name.

Java opens at 819 Sherman
With many more options than in its previous location, Java Coffee & Cafe opened last week at 819 Sherman Ave.
Breakfast is from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by "lunch" with sandwiches, salads, fries and several "starters" from 2 p.m. until closing about 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Beer and wine also are available.
Seating is inside or on the patio, and a game room is being developed.
One advantage over the "old" location at Fourth and Sherman (also open until July 31) is ample parking.
Live the Lake at 112 N. Fourth
An array of Coeur d'Alene souvenirs, many with "Live the Lake" inscribed, are offered at Live the Lake. Although in previous locations in past years, the store opened last week at 112 N. Fourth St.
The inventory includes many apparel options, glassware and even cribbage board maps of the lake. A 50-percent-off sale on last year's inventory ends June 16. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Metanoia has hot yoga
Classes begin Wednesday at the Metanoia Hot Yoga Studio at 317 E. Coeur d'Alene Ave.
Offered in a room heated from 95 to 105 degrees, the heat softens the tendons, ligaments and muscles, allowing practitioners to go more deeply into the postures while greatly reducing the risk of injury and increasing the heart rate for a better cardiovascular workout, explained owner Julie Rifenburg.
The result is a healing effect in any injured areas and a cleansing of the circulatory system, and the heated room increases concentration, she said. Phone 665-7955. Check www.metanoiahotyoga.com.
