PET: Someone's loss a huge gain

Thursday, we lost a very important part of our lives. She was 11 and was with us for 10 of her years. Her name was Ms. Gracie Lou Freebush and she was an amazing Great Dane.

I wanted to thank some people who were instrumental in us having this dog. But first let me tell you a little about her.

Imagine driving on Highway 95 coming up to Wyoming Avenue and see a Great Dane running full speed across all four lanes and not getting hit… That is how we found her. My daughter and I grabbed her in the Ziggy’s parking lot and took her to the Kootenai County Humane Society. This is where I need to thank one of the people involved: When I got there to turn her in, a very cranky lady snapped at me and said, “I told you we can’t take that dog!” So we left with her and took her to my grooming shop in Post Falls and gave her a much needed bath which we discovered she loved and over the years loved them to the point that she would bug me to bathe her if she was in the least bit dirty.

We turned her into Great Dane Rescue. I told my girls that if nobody adopted her we would take her. Pretty sure there was a conspiracy between my girls and GDR to not let anyone adopt her in that time frame.

She was always a consummate lady. She was also an amazing ranch dog; she helped me round up chickens, went for rides with the horses, loved to ride on the quad, skip loader and go bye-bye. But one of the best things about her was she adored her humans. She was loved to the point that my customers would stop by and see if she was at work with me just to say hello to her.

In closing I want to specially thank the person(s) who tried to drop her off at KHS and then dumped her instead. You have no idea what an amazing dog you gave up. We have so many stories we could write a series of children’s books about her.

Everything happens for a reason. KHS refusing to take her and then her not being adopted was an amazing blessing. We needed this angel and you gave her to us.
