The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 10 years, 8 months AGO
The next outing in a series of guided hikes on the Whitefish Trail this season is a guided bird hike at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, on the Swift Creek portion of the Whitefish Trail.
Bruce Tannehill of Flathead Audubon will lead a walk through sections of old growth forest overlooking Swift Creek followed by a visit to Lazy Creek, a known birding hotspot. Learn bird songs and spot the sparrows, woodpeckers, warblers and nuthatches that live in the area.
Tannehill, treasurer of the local Audubon chapter, and his wife, Gail Cleveland, are avid local birders.
Both novice and experienced birders and families are welcome on this outing. Bring your binoculars and sturdy hiking shoes. Spotting scopes will be available.
Meet at Swift Creek Trailhead at 6 p.m. or at Depot Park near the Whitefish Library at 5:30 p.m. to carpool to the trailhead.
