U of Mary
Laura Burgess graduated from the University of Mary, in Bismarck, N.D., on May 3 with a bachelor of science cum laude in nursing and a Certified Schafer Leader designation from the Harold Schafer Emerging Leaders Academy.
Carroll College
Caitlin Marie Newton, of Columbia Falls, joined 139 other Montana students in graduating from Carroll College on May 10. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree cum laude in biology.
Dean’s list
Cale Vukonich, of Columbia Falls, was named to the 2-14 spring semester dean’s list at Rocky Mountain College in Billings.
UNC grad
Trisha Smith, of Columbia Falls, graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a master’s in speech-language pathology.
President’s list
Two local students earned a 3.7 to 4.0 grade-point average and were named to Gonzaga University’s President’s List for spring semester 2014 — Derek DesRosier, East Glacier Park, and McKenna Emmerich, Columbia Falls.

Canyon bike trail meeting May 16

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
