Robert "Chub" Stoddard

On Sunday, June 1, 2014, while sitting in his easy chair watching his favorite television station, Robert "Chub" Stoddard closed his eyes for a moment and woke in the arms of his Savior.

Bob Stoddard, the seventh child of Raymond B. and Katherine Kolbar Stoddard, was born in 1936 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The Stoddard family moved to the Rathdrum Prairie in 1901 and homesteaded near the present site of the Coeur d'Alene airport.

Bob attended Coeur d'Alene high school and excelled in sports. In 1955, he married Kay Stein of Coeur d'Alene. They had three children: Angela, Bradley and Tracy.

Bob served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was honorably discharged in 1959.

In his younger years, Bob was an avid fast pitch softball player. He enjoyed playing, officiating and coaching basketball and baseball. He loved to dance, and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in high school athletics.

Bob spent most of his life living and working in Coeur d'Alene, including the Coeur d'Alene Press, Don LaVoie Distributing, various insurance agencies and Hagadone Hospitality.

In 1985, Bob married Helen "Hannah" Stoddard, the mother of four sons: Tom (Patty) Evans, of Hayden Lake; Kirk (Laurie) Evans, of Huntington Beach, Bart (Jenny) Evans of Costa Mesa, and Knox (Kim) Tiernan of San Clemente.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 2013; parents, Raymond and Katherine; brothers: Edwin, Raymond, Walter, Tom, and Ken; and sister, Colleen Hansen. Bob is survived by his children: Angela (Dwayne) Collins, of Wenatchee, Wash., Bradley (Catrin) Stoddard, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and Tracy (Mark) Hutchison, of Livermore, Calif., sisters: Barbara Rogers and Doris Breeden, both of Spokane, Wash., sister-in-law, Sandra Stoddard, of Post Falls, Idaho; grandchildren: Danelle (Jamie) Collins Wright, Sam (Kate) Collins, Ben Stoddard, Tyler Stoddard, JJ Stoddard, Jack Hutchison, William Hutchison, and Anna Hutchison; and two great granddaughters: Rosalie and Lillian Wright.

Bob's memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday June 7, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. Viewing will be from 4-6 p.m., Friday, June 6, at Yates Home Coeur d'Alene Chapel.
