KELLOGG - A Shoshone County sheriff's dispatcher confirms there has been "an incident" at the Sunshine Mine near Kellogg but she could not provide any additional details.

Associated Press calls to Sunshine Silver Mines spokeswoman Monica Brisnehan and the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office were not immediately returned Monday night.

Additional inquiries by the News-Press were not answered.

In 2012, a fire was reported inside the silver mine. Twelve people were safely evacuated after a sensor in a vent shaft detected elevated levels of carbon monoxide. That fire burned for several weeks.

Last fall, Sunshine Silver Mines entered an agreement to purchase the Sunshine Precious Metals Refinery from Formation Metals for $12 million. At that time, Sunshine officials called the purchase a major step in the plan to reopen and begin production in the Sunshine Mine.
