POST FALLS - A 22-year-old Post Falls man was arrested Tuesday for attempted robbery and aggravated battery for allegedly beating a male with a baseball bat.

Post Falls police arrested Andrew Stephan for injuring a 25-year-old Coeur d'Alene man outside Super 1 Foods in Post Falls and fleeing on Monday night. He was also booked into the Kootenai County jail for two counts of parole violation.

Post Falls Police Capt. Greg McLean said the encounter occurred at 9:50 p.m. after Stephan, who was in a dark-colored Suburban, cut off a car in the parking lot at the east end of the store.

"Something happened between the two, but we're not getting the full story," said McLean, adding that both males claimed they don't know each other.

McLean said, at one point during the incident, Stephan reportedly demanded the victim's wallet, but never obtained it. McLean said the victim suffered serious injuries, including in the ribs, but refused medical treatment.

McLean said that two females - one in each of the vehicles - also got into a scuffle. One of the females suffered minor injuries.

Stephan declined to speak to police after he was arrested, McLean said. He was arrested on Tuesday morning at a residence on W. 23rd Avenue.
