A distracted trucker dumped two trailers of plywood and suffered some bumps and bruises when he rolled his rig near Dayton on Tuesday.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Brian Casey said the man was southbound at about 4:30 p.m. when he was distracted by something inside his vehicle and “took his eyes off the road at a bad time,” failing to negotiate a curve on U.S. 93 at mile marker 82.

The semi trailer went off the road and down an embankment, dumping nearly 2,000 pieces of plywood from his two trailers. The rear trailer ended up upside down, the middle trailer nearly upside down and the truck on its side.

The driver was able to crawl out of the vehicle, which Casey said was totaled since the front axle had been “pretty much torn apart.”

“The driver was OK, but he certainly made a pretty spectacular mess out there,” he said.

Casey said neither speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
