Snowplow crews in Glacier National Park are closing in on Logan Pass, the final destination in the annual Going-to-the-Sun Road clearing effort.

A west side crew was working in the Rimrocks area this week, just below Oberlin Bend and the pass. At Rimrocks, the crew initially encountered snow that was 20 feet deep.

An east-side crew is finished plowing in the Siyeh Bend area and the plows are about two miles east of the pass.

Park visitors can drive 15 miles from the park’s West Glacier entrance to the vehicle gate at Avalanche. From there, hikers and bikers can travel as far as the Loop while the park’s snowplow crew is working.

The Packers Roost Road, just below the Loop, has been closed recently for bear management reasons.

On the east side of the park, vehicles can go only as far as the foot of St. Mary Lake because of construction activity beyond that point. Hikers and bikers can go as far as the Rising Sun picnic area.
