COEUR d'ALENE - Tia Flynn has a new hero - insurance agent Jim Gray.

Flynn, an audiologist at Affordable Hearing in Coeur d'Alene, told The Press Thursday that she doesn't usually take her dirt bike to work with her. However on Wednesday she brought the bike, locked with a chain to her truck, to work in order to take it to Spokane for repairs after her shift ended.

Concerned about having the bike visible in the parking lot at her Third Street office, Flynn said she made sure to park her truck where she could periodically check on it throughout the day.

"The minute my last patient left around 2:30 in the afternoon, I sat down and started typing," Flynn said. "Five minutes later my insurance agent, who my dirt bike is insured with, pops his head in the door and goes, 'I think someone is taking your motorcycle, grab your phone and call 911.'"

Flynn quickly reacted and called 911 while the two of them began chasing the thief.

"We chased him and I was holding the phone with 911 trying to chase this guy while he is going between buildings and alleys," Flynn said. "I had my dress shoes on, so did Jim, while we're chasing him down the street. If I had my tennis shoes on I would have pummeled him, I was so mad."

Eventually the thief was pinned behind Silver Creek sign shop, where he ditched the bike and headed to the front of the shop after being confronted by Gray.

"I jumped over my bike and go out front and Jim's chasing him going the other way," Flynn said. "I'm sitting there on the phone giving the police his description and he jumped in between some houses. He got away, but we got my bike."

According to Flynn, the thief, who she said was wearing a backpack containing his "thievery tools," was able to quietly cut the chain and tie-downs, take down a bike ramp that was in the bed of the truck in order to bring the bike down to the street.

"This guy was so good," Flynn said. "He was thief material. He was like thief pro."

Fortunately for Flynn, the bike didn't start and Gray noticed the thief.

"It's a special bike," Flynn said. "If my bike had started that guy would have been gone. If Jim hadn't seen him, he would have been gone. He was alert enough to go, 'Hey that's not her husband. Who is that?' and then alert me so we could chase my bike down."

To honor Gray, Flynn said she brought him a dozen doughnuts Thursday morning.

"Jim's my hero," Flynn said. "He's a great guy."
