Schools offer summer meal programs

 Kalispell Public Schools, Whitefish School District and Libby School District will serve free meals to children over the summer.

The summer food service program is administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Child Nutrition Program. It was developed to ensure children who live in areas with a significant concentration of low-income families continue receiving nutritious meals when school is not in session.

Children 18 and under are invited to participate. No registration, proof of income or identification is required.

Libby School District will serve meals June 9 through July 31 at the following locations and times:

  •  Kootenai Valley Christian School, 1024 Montana Ave.. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
  •  Libby Christian Church, 100 Kootenai River Road. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch is available from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  •  Libby Elementary School, 101 Ski Road. Breakfast will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from noon to 12:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Whitefish School District will begin serving meals June 16 through Aug. 15 at the following locations and times:

  •  City Beach, Lakeside Boulevard. Lunch will be from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  •  Skate Park, 305 Armstrong Road. Lunch is available from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  •  Whitefish Middle School, 600 E. Second Street. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Kalispell Public Schools will serve meals June 16 through Aug. 22. Meals will not be served on July 4.

  •  Elrod Elementary School, 412 Third Ave. W. Breakfast will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and lunch is available from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  •  Lawrence Park, 1105 N. Main St. Lunch is served from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  •  Woodland Park, 1 Woodland Park Loop. Breakfast is available from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
