State High School Rodeo: Four area riders qualify for nationals

Abby Knight of Charlo finished second in the short go on Championship Sunday at the Montana High School Rodeo Finals at Majestic Valley Arena.

Knight’s time in pole bending was 20.96.

Celie Salmond of Choteau had the top run, 20.70

Knight finished fourth in the year-end standings in that event, qualifying her for the National High School Rodeo Finals next month in Rock Springs, Wyo.

The top four from this event earn spots in the national finals.

Wyatt Lytton of Polson and Carson King of Dillon tied for first in the year-end standings in team roping. They finished sixth during Sunday’s performance.

Polson’s Nichole Lake finished second in the year-end standings in breakaway roping. She had the ninth best time in the short go on the final day.

Ronan’s Trevar McAllister placed third in the year-end bareback standings.

The state finals were held in Kalispell for the first time since 1984. Kalispell will host this event again next year.
