Solar Roadways extends fundraising drive

SANDPOINT — Scott and Julie Brusaw, the brains behind the viral sensation Solar Roadways, are completely exhausted — and they couldn’t be happier about it.

The couple’s fundraising campaign surpassed $2 million Monday, making it the most successful project in crowdfunding site Indiegogo’s history. With more than double the campaign’s initial goal committed, the Brusaws are closer than ever to perfecting their concept of glass-encased solar panels that provide a safe, durable driving surface, a heating element to melt snow and ice, LED lights to paint road lines or warning messages and, of course, the ability to generate clean solar power.
