WHITEFISH — In a game that took more than four hours, the Kalispell Lakers AA squad squeaked out a 12-11 win at the Glacier Twins A in a non-conference American Legion baseball game on Tuesday night at Memorial Park, ending the Twins’ winning streak at 12 games.
Leading at one point 8-3, the Lakers had to hold off multiple rallies by the red-hot Twins, the first coming in the bottom of the fourth. Glacier scored four runs to cut the Kalispell lead to one, then tied the game in the next inning at 8-8.
The Lakers would score four runs over the next three innings to again pad their lead but needed to hold on late to secure the win. Glacier scored a run on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth and scored twice more in the ninth on an error and catchers interference. The Twins loaded the bases with two outs trailing 12-11 before Ty Murphy grounded to second base to end the game.
Brett Thomas went 3 for 5 from the plate for Kalispell, hitting three doubles and four RBIs. Adam Frandsen was 3 for 5 with a home run and a pair of RBIs.
Vincent Smith was 3 for 6 with three RBIs for the Twins. Colten Parker was 3 for 5 and Jayce Fagerland was 3 for 6.
Glacier will host Libby in a conference doubleheader today while Kalispell’s AA squad heads to Washington for the Summer Palouse Tournament on Thursday.
