The Glacier Twins are in a groove. The A league American Legion baseball team rattled off six more wins last week as they extended their streak to 12 games.

“It’s been fun,” head coach Bob Rupp said. “The boys are playing as a team. We’ve been very disciplined in what we do and it’s working.”

The coach credited strong pitching as the key ingredient to the winning streak.

“The pitching has been outstanding,” he said. “It’s kept us in a lot of the games.”

“Jonny Sapa has been pitching out of his mind. He’s hitting all of his spots.”

On June 4, the Twins dropped crosstown rival the Kalispell Lakers A squad 10-5. Then they beat Havre 8-3 on June 6.

They didn’t miss a beat after that, dumping the Tri-County Cardinals 13-2 and the Fort MacLeod Royals 8-2 at the Havre North Stars tournament. The Twins wrapped up the tournament with two more wins, beating the Glasgow Reds 4-2 on Sunday and the Billings Royals 5-2.

Colton Gove went 3 for 4 against the Reds with a triple and double, and Jayce Fagerland went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Jesse Walburn got the win on the mound.

Against the Royals, Vincent Smith got the W on the mound. Gove had a double, and Fagerland had two RBIs.

Rupp says his team is being aggressive at the plate and putting the ball in play.

“We don’t strikeout very often,” he said. “Maybe twice a game.”

On defense, Rupp credited the play short stop Fagerland and second baseman Tristan Steinwand.

“We pitch for contact. These boys are playing great defense behind our pitchers,” he said.

The team had a tougher challenge Tuesday after presstime as they were slated to play the Kalispell Lakers AA team. Rupp called the rivalry game a test for his team.

“It’s something we look forward to,” he said. “We take those games seriously. It’ll be a battle.”

The Twins face Libby on Thursday in a double header, then travel to the Prairie Cardinal Tournament in Post Falls Idaho.
