Forest users warned about high water and closed areas
Hungry Horse News | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 10 years, 9 months AGO
Flathead National Forest managers are warning backcountry visitors that water levels remain high and could be dangerous for foot or stock crossings. Trail crews work are encountering small wash-outs and some large avalanche debris areas.
Drivers may encounter road crews blading, brushing and cleaning ditches. Work areas will be clearly signed and motorists are asked to use caution. All forest users should expect the unexpected.
Access to the Log Landing dispersed site on the Spotted Bear Ranger District is restricted while the Tin Mule Timber Sale operator is hauling logs out of an adjacent unit. Forest Road 5384 is closed to provide for public safety. Access to the dispersed site is expected to be open by July 1.
Also on Spotted Bear Ranger District, the East Side Trail No. 80 is closed to all foot and stock use from the Helen Creek Bench on the south side of Helen Creek to Damnation Creek. This area was burned by the 2013 Damnation Fire. Higher snowpack there in combination with spring run-off conditions has resulted in extensive trail damage on this stretch of trail. Forest Service crews are working hard to provide for safe access in this area.
