Pro golfers, athletes, celebs, coaches to appear in fundraiser

COEUR d'ALENE - Professional golfers, along with professional athletes and coaches will be part of a celebrity-amateur charity event Monday, Aug. 18 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course.

Presented in partnership with Nike Golf, the Showcase will feature professional golfers, including players from the PGA Tour, in a nine-hole golf exhibition. Proceeds from the event will benefit Community Cancer Fund and The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

"This is going to be a premiere event and a rare opportunity for Inland Northwest golf fans to see the highest level of professional golf up close, all to benefit the local fight against cancer," said Jerid Keefer, Director of the Showcase.

In addition to professional golfers, spectators will also have the chance to see an assortment of other professional athletes, coaches, ESPN personalities and celebrities participating during the exhibition. A dedicated Fan Zone will feature concessions, a beer garden and an interactive, state-of-the-art Nike Golf demo center.

Celebrity guests announced so far include Spokane native Mark Rypien, former Gonzaga basketball player Robert Sacre, former Montana and current Oregon State basketball coach Wayne Tinkle, former college basketball coach and current ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla; and ESPN sportscaster Neil Everett, who was raised in Spokane.

Tickets for the Showcase go on sale to the public on July 11.

As part of the Showcase festivities, a day of golf and dinner/auction are also being held on Aug. 17 for individual and corporate sponsors.
