Mission Valley on a tear at Cloninger Classic

HELENA — Mission Valley blew through its schedule Saturday, sweeping games against Kalispell A and Vauxhall (Alberta), winning by a combined 23 runs at the Cloninger Classic American Legion baseball tournament.
The Mariners topped the Lakers 16-1 in their opener, scoring all of their runs in the third inning or later. Mission Valley scored six runs in the third, two each in the fourth and fifth and six in the sixth to turn a tight game into a rout.
Brennen Andrews was 2 for 3 from the plate with a home run and three RBIs for the Mariners. Chris Corpron was 2 for 3 for the Lakers.
Mission Valley didn’t slow up against Vauxhall, scoring multiple runs from the second inning on, winning 11-3.
Alex Killian was 2 for 3 with a home run and a pair of RBIs and TJ Olson was 2 for 3 with a with a double and two RBIS.
The Mariners will be playing in the consolation championship against Vauxhall today.

HELENA — The Loggers scored twice in extra innings to hold off Vauxhall at the Cloninger Classic and split a pair of contests on the third day of the tournament.
Tied 7-7 after regulation, Libby’s Brandon Sadewasser and Collin Johnson scored in the top of the eighth, once on a balk to take a 9-7 lead. Ryan Huffman allowed just one run and shut down the Spurs with a strikeout in the bottom half to clinch a 9-8 win for the Loggers.
It was far different from the early game, when the Loggers ran into one of the state’s toughest teams — the Laurel Dodgers.
Laurel had 11 hits, scoring three runs in the second inning and five in the sixth to run away with a shut out win, 8-0.
The Loggers had four hits, one each from Luke Haggerty, Dylon Lane, Huffman and Erik Lauer.
