Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 10 years, 7 months AGO
Anna Helena Catherine Debus Woessner passed in peace surrounded by family on June 15, 2014, at the age of 91.
Born in Tienen, Belgium, on May 8, 1923, Anna spent her childhood in Belgium with her mom, Anna, her dad, Henry, and her two brothers, William and Robert.
After the Nazi invasion, Anna remained in Belgium with her family, attended school in design and fashion and worked at a photography store where she met her husband, William, an American GI. Just prior to the end of the war, Anna and Bill married in Belgium on Aug. 13, 1945. The couple later relocated to Kalispell where she worked as a homemaker and spent many hours learning the language and culture of her new country. She worked hard to obtain her citizenship in 1948 and was a member of the Overseas Wives club where she made lifelong friends.
Anna was blessed with two children, Edward and Betty Ann, who remained to her last days two of her greatest loves. Anna loved her family and held them in her heart as one of her most prized possessions. There was nothing she would not do to protect or help one of her family members in need.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Woessner.
She is survived by her brother, William Debus of Belgium and his wife Madelyn, along with numerous nephews and nieces; her daughter, Betty Ann Heino and her husband Neil, of Kalispell; her son Edward Woessner and his wife Cyndee, and grandchildren Kyle and Kristi of Spokane; granddaughter, Heather Petersen and her husband Craig, of Austin, Texas; grandson, Brian Heino and his wife Brandy, of Kalispell; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Jackson, Cheyenne and Lander.
A celebration of Anna's life is scheduled for 6 p.m. today, June 19, for viewing, and 7 p.m. for a vigil service, at Risen Christ Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Risen Christ Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Risen Christ Catholic Church are requested.
