Betty Shoumaker, 88, of Polson died Thursday, May 29 in Polson after a short illness. She was born on Feb 21, 1926, in Clearmont, Wyo. to Noah Askins and Susie Miller Askins, both formerly of Kentucky. She attended schools in Buffalo and Clearmont, WY and graduated high school at Clearmont.
Betty married Richard C. Shoumaker of Buffalo, on July 1, 1947. They farmed in the Spotted Horse, Wyo. area until 1960 when they moved to Valley View, near Polson. In 1991 they moved to Polson and resided there until their deaths.
Betty is survived by three children, Ted, of Boise, Idaho; Kate Langford of Meridian, Idaho; and Penny Starr, of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Inurnment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Polson. A memorial Service will be held on July 12 from 1-4 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 1609 2nd St W, Polson, Montana. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Betty’s Quilting Fund, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Polson.

Danielle Jeanette Wood pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide during a video arraignment Tuesday before Lake County District Court Judge Deborah “Kim” Christopher at the Sanders County Courthouse in Thompson Falls. Wood is charged with deliberate homicide in connection with the death of Thompson Falls resident Matthew LaFriniere in May 2018.
