Free piano concert July 12 in Cd'A

Cynthia Marlette will present a free piano concert at 7 p.m. July 12 at First Presbyterian Church, 521 Lakeside Ave., Coeur d'Alene.

Marlette will perform works by Chopin and Dvorak, along with contemporary arrangements of hymns. She will also be joined by Susan Nipp, Kim Cheeley and Ann Krugel for a piano quartet performing a medley of hymns.

Marlette graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, with a bachelor of education degree in piano and voice. She gave her first solo piano recital in fifth grade, having started piano lessons at 6. In college, Marlette was the winner of a concerto contest and performed the Khachaturian piano concerto with full orchestra. She is the founder of the Northwest Sacred Music Chorale and is also a recipient of the Mayor's Award for Excellence in the Arts awarded by the Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission.

Marlette has been director of music at churches in Sioux City, Iowa, Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., and at Coeur d'Alene Trinity Lutheran Church.

The concert is free and her gift to the congregation and community. A free will offering will be collected to benefit Family Promise, and she encourages people to generously support this organization that assists homeless families.
