WHITEFISH — The Glacier Twins scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning of their nightcap to break a tie with the Bitterroot Red Sox and split a doubleheader on Saturday.
Tied 8-8 after a Red Sox rally from six runs down, Glacier outfielder Colton Gove hit a walk-off double to score teammates A.J. Wetsch and Chris Park and give the Twins the second game, 10-8.
Gove, who was batting leadoff, was 2 for 4 in the contest with four RBIs, also hitting a two-run single in the first. His hit scored the last of six runs for the Twins in the opening inning to give Glacier a 6-1 lead. They would lead 7-1 after the second before a five-run third by the Red Sox cut into their lead.
Bitterroot tied the game in the sixth inning, but Glacier shut down the rally, getting six of the last seven batters out.
Kyler Howke was 3 for 4 with an RBI in the nightcap and five Twins had at least two hits.
Glacier wasn’t able to start as fast in the opener, falling behind 5-0 before scoring their first run in the second inning. The Twins scored twice in the fifth inning to cut their deficit to 6-3, but Bitterroot added five in the top of the sixth, ending that rally, winning the contest 11-4.
Tristin Steinwand, Jayce Fagerland and Colten Parker each had two hits for the Twins.
Glacier is off until a doubleheader at Kootenai Valley on Tuesday. They host the Ed Gallo Tournament next weekend.
