Officer-involved shooting shuts down I-90

UPDATE: Westbound Interstate 90 at Post Falls from Highway 41 to Pleasant View has re-opened after today's officer-involved shooting investigation.

POST FALLS — An officer-involved shooting that occurred around 2 a.m. today has shut down westbound Interstate 90 at the Spokane Street onramp at Post Falls.

Law enforcement said one person who led police on a pursuit was transported to Kootenai Health and is in critical condition. No law enforcement personnel was shot.

Officers and deputies from Coeur d’Alene Police, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police and the Post Falls Police were involved in the incident at milepost 5.

A vehicle at the scene struck a concrete barrier at the I-90 onramp. Investigators at are the scene looking for evidence.

No other details have been released.

The Critical Incident Task Force has been activated for the investigation. Additionally, because of the four agencies involved, the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office and the Rathdrum Police Department have also been requested to assist. The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office will be overseeing the investigation.

Currently the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 from Highway 41 to Spokane Street will be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Travelers will need to use alternate routes.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
