EPHRATA - Ephrata Raceway Park began the first day of summer with great weather and hot action as the Pepsi Racing winged 360 sprint cars, Jerry's Auto Supply street stocks, and North American big rigs battled on the bullring's high-banks.

Mike Fought, of Othello, returned to ERP's quarter-mile asphalt after a two year hiatus. Fought, a past champion in the Pepsi Racing sprint cars, picked up where he left off and broke the win streak of Joe and Adam Smith of Moses Lake.

The Smith brothers have dominated the sprint car division for the past two years. Fought started the main with Joe Smith right behind him.

The pair stayed nose to tail and worked their way through the field with Fought taking the lead from David Macken of Moses Lake on lap-6. A late race caution bunched the field together.

After the race resumed, Joe Smith battled hard trying to find a way past Fought. Fought was able to hold off Smith's charge to take the victory in the 30 lap main event. Adam Smith, Richard Black and Tom Beierman rounded out the top five finishing positions.

Jim Bise of Moses Lake earned the main event trophy in the Jerry's Auto Supply street stocks after holding off a strong challenge by Brad Morrison, also from Moses Lake.

Bise powered his way to the front, taking the lead away from Jeremy Razey of Soap Lake on lap-7. However, Morrison maneuvered through traffic and battled with Bise.

The pair raced hard and clean with Bise crossing the finish line just ahead of Morrison. Razey, John Blackburn, and Kyle Childress finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

The North American Big Rigs made the trek from Canada - some as far away as Calgary, Alberta - for wheel-to-wheel racing with diesel-powered trucks. Mike Hurst of Victoria, British Columbia set the early pace with his 1958 Kenworth, leading the first eight laps of the final race of the night.

Patiently, Alberta's Darren Berdahl guided his 2004 Peterbuilt to the front of the pack on lap-10. Berdahl led the next 20 circuits to take the checkers just ahead of Hirst and Correy McMeakin.
