Are you participating in the biggest 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Earth? If you are not playing, it is beyond basketball - it is an outdoor festival with shopping, food and entertainment. The event is June 28 and 29, and we hope to see you out there!

Stay hydrated! When the temperatures rise, getting enough to drink is important whether you're playing sports, traveling or just sitting in the sun. Check out the article we shared on our Facebook page about staying hydrated: www.facebook.com/pinnaclept.

Play it safe out there! An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is an injury to the knee commonly affecting basketball players and other athletes; 30 percent are the result of direct contact (player-to-player, player-to-object). Women are four to six times more likely than men to experience an ACL tear. Most people who sustain an ACL tear will undergo surgery to repair the tear.

When you tear the ACL, you may feel a sharp, intense pain or hear a loud "pop" or snap. You might not be able to walk on the injured leg because you can't support your weight through your knee joint. Usually, the knee will swell immediately (within minutes to a few hours), and you might feel that your knee "gives way" when you walk or put weight on it.

There are ways to avoid this injury! Be sure to exercise two to three times a week using sport-specific exercises. The program should be designed to improve balance and strength, and strengthen your core muscles, as well as thigh and leg muscles. This program should last longer than six weeks to be successful.

If you do experience pain this weekend, please give us a call at Pinnacle Physical Therapy. We are here to help you recover and get results fast. We have two convenient locations in Post Falls (208) 777-4242 and Coeur d'Alene (208) 665-2000.

Good luck out there and have fun!

You are not alone! Over 50 percent of pregnant women experience low back pain during their pregnancy. This pain can be debilitating, preventing you from working, taking care of your home, and taking care of your other children. Pregnancy-related lower back pain can be due to postural changes, ligament laxity due to the release of the hormone relaxin, and weight gain resulting in decreased stability of the back and hips.

Suffering from knee pain?

Knee pain can be caused by disease or by injury. Knee pain can restrict movement, affect muscle control in the sore leg, and reduce the strength and endurance of the muscles that support the knee. The most common disease affecting the knee is osteoarthritis, which is caused by the cartilage in the knee gradually wearing away, resulting in pain and swelling.
