RONAN – Harry Lozeau fired a rifle at his brother, Terry Lozeau, killing him, ending an alcohol-induced argument over spending Social Security benefits, according to Deputy Lake County Attorney Jessica Cole-Hodgkinson.
The Lozeaus’ brother, Edward Stasso, stated that on June 14, Harry Paul Lozeau, 53, was standing on a porch on Mollman Pass Trail when he fired a scoped rifle at Terry Lozeau, 51, who was working on a pickup truck, according to court documents.
The shot struck terry Lozeau in the head, killing him, according to witnesses.
On June 16, Judge Kim Christopher had to delay the arraignment and plea until Wednesday (June 25) because she prosecuted Lozeau in the 1990s when she was Lake County Attorney.
Judge James Manley heard the arraignment.
The Lozeau brothers, who had been drinking beer, began to argue about how Terry spent his Social Security disbursement, according to court records.
When Terry and Harry started fighting in the house, Harry produced a rifle.
Stasso said he grabbed the gun and the fight appeared to stop then Terry went outside to start his truck.
While Terry was working on the truck, Harry stood on the porch and pointed the rifle at Terry and fired off a dry round. Stasso said he heard a “click,” but no shot was fired.
Terry seemed aware Harry was pointing a rifle at him, but continued to work.
Then Harry went into the house and returned with the rifle. Stasso said that Harry appeared to be loading the chamber.
Harry then fired a shot, dropping Terry to the ground with blood flowing from his head.
Stasso immediately left to call authorities and as he was walking away he saw Harry pass by in a brown 1993 Plymouth Reliant.
Harry Lozeau was at large for three days until tribal police captured him Tuesday near the scene of the shooting.
