Scholarships awarded to Cd'A Charter grads

EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the second story on Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy students earning scholarships. Other students' achievements ran in the June 19 Press.

Students in Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy's Class of 2014 were awarded the following scholarships:

* Leif Fredericks, Charter's valedictorian who plans to attend Princeton (N.J.) University and major in mechanical and aerospace engineering, received a $128,000 grant from Princeton. He also received a National Merit Scholarship of $2,500 and Charter's Jeff Child Memorial Scholarship worth $1,000.

* Nate Garcia, who plans to attend North Idaho College and the University of Idaho and major in finance, received the Molstead Family Memorial Scholarship from NIC for $1,500.

* Taylor Garn, who plans to attend Brigham Young University-Provo and major in education received a Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) scholarship for $1,000.

* Jordan Gibbs, who plans to attend NIC and major in business administration, received the Merle and Gladys Henkle/Cherie Cook Memorial Scholarship from NIC for $1,000.

* Mindi Grantham, who plans to attend Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston and major in nursing, received the Presidential Scholarship and STAR scholarship for $1,000 each.

* Anne Graves, who plans to attend Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz., and Spokane Community College and major in respiratory therapy, received the National Latin Exam Scholarship for $1,000.

* Cecilia Graves, who plans to attend Carroll College in Helena, Mont., and major in anthrozoology, received the Trustee Scholarship from Carroll for a total value of $52,000.

* Sarah Harrison, who plans to attend Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and major in public policy/foreign relations, received a scholarship from Charter for $1,000.

* Danielle Hughson, who plans to attend Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., and major in English/political science, received a university grant with a total value of $200,000. She also received a scholarship from Charter for $1,000.

* Elena Johnson, who plans to attend Earlham College and major in linguistics, received the Founders' Scholarship of $168,000 from Earlham in Richmond, Ind. She also received a $1,000 scholarship from Coeur d'Alene Charter.

* Amanda Johnston, who plans to attend Whitworth University in Spokane and major in International business/project management, received Whitworth's Mind and Heart Scholarship for $70,000.

* Justin Kiehn, who plans to attend the University of Montana in Missoula and major in pre-pharmacy, received the university's Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship that has a total value of $28,000.

* Miranda Koski, who plans to attend Montana State University in Bozeman and major in forensic accounting, received the university's Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship that has a total value of $56,000.

* Kyle Mason, who plans to attend UI and major in political science and economics, received an Academic Achievement Level Gold Scholarship from UI for a total value of $12,000 and a scholarship from Charter for $1,000.

* Ariel Mesenbrink, who pans to attend University of Montana in Missoula and major in psychology and piano performance, received a Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship from UM with a total value of $28,000, a Piano Scholarship from UM for $6,000 and a Model UN Top Senior Scholarship from UM for $1,300.

* Micailey Metcalf, who plans to attend NIC and hasn't declared a major, received a Molstead Family Memorial Scholarship from NIC for $1,000.

* Alexander Minerath, who plans to attend University of Puget Sound and major in business, received a Deans Scholarship from UPS for a total of $20,000.

* Lindsey Morey, who pans to attend Washington State University and major in neuroscience, received a Cougar Academic Scholarship that has a total value of $36,000.

* Shay Neely, who plans to attend UI and major in economics, received Academic Achievement Level Gold Scholarship from UI for a total value of $12,000.

* Dakota Nieland, who plans to attend University of Arizona in Tucson and major in neuroscience), received a National Merit Tuition Award from UA for a total value of $60,000.

* Nick Oetken, who plans to attend NIC and major in English, received the Merle and Gladys Henkel/Cherie Cook Memorial Scholarship from NIC for $400 and the H.C. Slamberg Memorial Scholarship from NIC for $385.

* Louis Pennigs, who plans to attend St. John's University in New York and major in biology, received a Trustee Scholarship from St. John's for a total value of $90,000. He also received a National Merit Scholarship from St. John's for $4,000 and a Legacy Scholarship from St. John's for $8,000.

* Tayler Petticolas, who plans to attend Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and major in international business management) received a Distinguished Young Women Scholarship for $250 and a Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship from NAU with a total value of $31,840.

* Brandon Ratcliff, who plans to attend UI and major in computer science, received Academic Achievement Level Gold Scholarship from UI for a total value of $12,000.

* Sam Redline, who pans to attend NIC and UI and hasn't declared a major, received a Merle and Gladys Henckel/Cherie Cook Memorial Scholarship from NIC for $1,000 and the Green Family Foundation Scholarship from Charter for $500.

* Ben Rhuman, who plans to attend MSU and major in math, received the Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship from MSU with a total value of $48,000.

* Kyle Roth, who plans to attend Brigham Young University and major in physics, received a scholarship from BYU for $20,000 and a scholarship from Charter for $1,000.

* Hailey Schlaefer, who plans to attend LCSC and major in nursing, received a Star Program Scholarship from LCSC for $500 and a Presidential Scholarship from LCSC for $7,000.

* Logan Shevalier, who plans to attend NIC and UI and major in history, received a Molstead Family Memorial Scholarship from NIC for $1,000.

* Lily Siebrecht, who pans to attend NIC and UI and major in fine Arts/graphic design, received the Laura Moore Cunningham Scholarship from NIC for $3,000.

* Konnor Stelflug, who plans to attend Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., and major in biology, received a Presidential Scholarship from Rocky for a total value of $44,000.

* Jake Sweeney, who plans to attend MSU and major in chemical/mechanical engineering, received a Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship from MSU that has a total value of $46,000. He also received a Tribal Homelands Scholarship from MSU for $53,000.

* Anna Waltar, who plans to attend Whitworth University and major in international studies, received a Mind and Heart Scholarship from Whitworth for a total value of $80,000. She also received a National Merit Scholarship from Whitworth for a total value of $8,000 and a Charter scholarship for $1,000.

* Alex Whealon, who plans to attend MSU and hasn't declared a major, received MSU's Academic Achievement Award for a total value of $22,000.

* Melonie Wright, who plans to attend NIC and Boise State University and major in nursing, received the Molstead Family Memorial Scholarship from NIC for a total value of $1,500.

* Dane Wurmlinger, who plans to attend Northern Michigan University in Marquette and major in new media technology/production management, received NMU's Success Award for a total value of $6,000.

* Claire Zasadny, who plans to attend NIC and hasn't declared a major, received a Molstead Family Memorial Scholarship for $1, 500.
