'Debunking the progressive myths'

Last week my wife and I previewed a new movie produced by local superstar producer Jerry Molen and director Dinesh D’Souza entitled “America: Imagine the World Without Her.” The two had previously produced and directed “2016: Obama’s America,” a film critical of Obama and revealing of his radicalized personal history.

So what is the purpose of their latest outstanding production, “America”? In piercing interviews and stock film footage of some of the most radical progressives (the likes of Noam Chomsky, Saul Alinsky and Ward Churchill), Mr. D’Souza presents five complaints against America, defining the progressive ideology that America is evil and must be “reinvented.”

He first presents the accusations: that Columbus and the United States government stole the land from the Native Americans, that the United States stole California, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona from Mexico, that white America stole the labor and dignity of blacks with slavery, that we stole the world’s resources with wars like the invasion of Iraq, and that capitalism is evil and must be replaced with income equality.

He then presents counter-arguments displaying a logical and factual defense of America’s behavior. I won’t give the whole film away — you really must go see it for yourself, opening in theaters on July 2, but let’s look at the hardest one to defend — slavery.

Mr. D’Souza readily admits that it was wrong and that reparations were due and many have already been paid, but the other side of the story is that blacks weren’t the only “slaves” in America. Tens of thousands of Irish were also kidnapped and sold into indentured servitude for, typically, periods of seven years and worked side by side with black slaves. Did you even know that? Irish today don’t get affirmative action for college, jobs and government contracts.

Also, though I knew there were some, there were actually thousands of black slave owners (in fact the first slave owner in the colonies was black) and in states like Louisiana, the number of black masters equalled the number of white slave owners. In addition, many countries over history have endured slavery, but we are the only one to have fought a war to end it, a war that resulted in the death of 350,000 Northern soldiers.

Mr. D’Souza does a masterful job of debunking the progressive myths that paint the noble concept that is America as a force of evil that must be destroyed and reinvented in the progressive image of equality. The truth of our history — a truth that is no longer told in our schools — is presented.

I strongly urge all of you to see this film and to take your children with you. If for no other reason, the information presented (both accusations and defenses) will allow you to start a dialogue with those who believe this liberal progressive administration’s view that America is evil and must be torn down and reinvented.

Mr. Molen and Mr. D’Souza have made an entertaining and informative movie that should be a “must see” for all thoughtful citizens, both liberal and conservative. Take your family to see “America” when it opens in theaters July 2 and buy the DVD when it comes out in three months or so (there is too much information presented to digest it all in one viewing). You will not be disappointed.

Inter Lake too tough on Zinke?

I am not for wasteful government spending, but does the Daily Inter Lake need to parrot the Associated Press’s repeated assaults on Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke’s air transportation spending ... and putting this garbage on the front page? After the liberal media got rid of HHS secretary Tom Price for using excessive charter flights, I’m sure they figure this is a way to get rid of most of the president’s Cabinet, not that any Democrats ever abused this privilege!

Was Obama team working to undermine Trump transition?

WOW! Can this piece-of-work we call the Congress and the drive-by media be any more pathetically one sided? Can their emphasis on character assassination and process overshadow the truth any more than they have obfuscated the truth thus far?

Creative problem-solving needed in Glacier Park

So Glacier National Park is considering a “one car in, one car out” policy at venues on dead-end roads such as Bowman Lake due to overcrowded parking causing a “safety issue.” I wonder how often emergency vehicles have had a problem getting to where they were needed at the lake. Not to mention that it seems to me a helicopter would be more useful in providing timely intervention and not be affected by overcrowded parking. My guess is that there are fewer than 50 parking spaces (excluding the campground itself) for the whole site, including people parking for multi-day backcountry hiking.
