Kaysers share rare wildlife viewing opportunity
Herald Columnists | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 10 years, 10 months AGO
We have seen a few hummingbird nests in our lifetime, but mostly up in the mountains or in an area where there are pine trees. Never have we seen or heard of a nest in the Columbia Basin or the Moses Lake area.
This week Ronda and Jerry Keyser sent along several photos of a hummingbird nest on their property with one egg, plus a hatchling.
Jerry sent the following along: "Dennis, To indicate how small this nest is, the light bulb is one and a half inches in diameter. The egg that hasn't hatched is approximately a quarter inch long and three-sixteenths inch wide. It is a very tiny egg.
"The nest appears to be made out of spider or cob webs and is tightly made. These are amazing little birds."
