Matthew Jacobson, 61, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2014.

Matt was born on April 29, 1953, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Michael Jacobson and Jacqueline Moock Jacobson. He was a normal kid who was fond of building and flying airplanes, and was good at working on car engines. Matt enjoyed playing football in school. He was among the first graduating class from the newly built Coeur d’Alene High School in 1971.

Matt enlisted in the Air Force directly out of high school and served our country for 14 years. His service included three tours in Vietnam, where he was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and numerous other awards.

Matt worked as an inspector for the State of Idaho, Department of Transportation, for about 20 years, after which he retired. His legacy includes the scenic Veterans Memorial bridge overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Matt was single for most of his life, but never short on friends. He mentored youngsters and helped troubled teens. He was generous in every way. Matt was always good for at least two jokes before he hung up the phone, and was forever rich with stories and laughter. He loved fishing and shooting, and building model airplanes - some he flew himself and others he sold for competitions.

Matt was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Jacobson; father, Michael Jacobson; and sister, Virginia Jacobson Tremblay.

Matt is survived by his brothers: Michael Jacobson (Karen), Christopher Jacobson (Connie), Paul Jacobson (Luanne), and sister, Marcia Jacobson Babcock. Matt’s family includes numerous nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and many friends.

The family wishes to thank the Veterans Hospital for their care over the years.

Per Matt's wishes, no funeral or services will be held. However, there will be a casual memorial from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, July 13, at the Hayden City Park on Government Way, just north of Honeysuckle Avenue. Please bring your own lawn chair and a story or two to share. Snacks will be provided. Donations in Matt's memory may be made to any Veteran's organization. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d'Alene has been entrusted to handle final arrangements. Please visit Matt's online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
