Can Congress use a litter box?

"Cats at least pee in the litter box.” So said Bill Maher on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” show on Feb. 10th. This very funny man who cleverly combines wit with political wisdom with selected guests offering differing points of view, was summing up a lively discussion on our totally undependable and thoroughly dysfunctional U.S. Congress.
I like cats. They seem to have pretty clearly defined and attainable goals, not like congressional people. Most are able to get along reasonably well with their adversaries while at the same time maintaining the dignity of their high position in life, unlike so many of our human legislators. And within a household, with all its confusion of dogs, other cats, rambunctious children and the necessary functioning of the whole family order and fulfillment of the family goals, cats seem to perform admirably, so unlike the U.S. Congress.
My question is this: Are we, as a nation, going to rise to the level of feline functioning or are we going to “go to the dogs”?

Letter: Change has to come from the people, not the government
Regardless of our political views, here are some questions in my opinion we each should think about, discuss among ourselves, and look at as we consider whether we live or die as a democracy, as an empowered nation, and as a free people.
Acting from our 'better selves'
The craziness that is going on, not only in America, but all over the world seems way beyond reason. The list is long and well known. What is important, in my opinion, is some recognition of what it is going to take to change the human condition.
Real change comes from the inside out
This morning I tuned into “Meet the Press” with Chuck Todd as the new moderator. In one segment he had invited the mayors of Pittsburg, Tacoma, and Oklahoma City to share their stories of coming from the depths of despair to vitality. One was a Democrat, one a Republican and one an Independent. Despite their political views, they each spoke with a similar attitude, focus and vision.
