MATTAWA - A Mattawa man was injured on Feb. 26 when the vehicle in which he was riding collided with another at the Highway 243-Road 24 SW entrance to town.

The mishap occurred at about 7 a.m. Javier Gonzalez Peizalpa, 39, of Mattawa was the only person injured. He was taken by Mattawa Police cruiser to the Mattawa Clinic for treatment.

Peizalpa was a passenger in a 1998 Chevy Venture van driven by Andres Pereyra Vazquez, 39, of Mattawa. He was using his seat belt, as was Vazquez.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Vazquez failed to yield right of way at the intersection stop sign. He was westbound on Road 24 SW and struck a northbound 1999 Dodge Ram Pickup with flatbed trailer.

The 1999 Dodge Ram was driven by Timothy K. Krumbah, 29, of Richland. He was wearing his seat belt. Both totaled vehicles were impounded by Davis Towing.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, the WSP said, but Vazquez was cited for not having insurance.
