Bigfork suspect denies assault charges

A Bigfork man has denied allegations that he assaulted a woman and her children.
Jacob Box, 33, pleaded not guilty in Flathead District Court to charges of partner or family member assault (third offense) and assault on a minor.
A court document alleges a woman got into a fight with her son — a minor — and that during the argument her boyfriend, Box, got upset and tackled the boy to the floor. Her 15-year-old daughter tried to break up the fight, at which point Box allegedly grabbed her hand, causing her pain.
Box also allegedly punched the woman in the back of the head as she was leaving the house.
The court document states Box has prior convictions for partner or family member assault in December 2001 and March 2003.
If convicted of both charges, Box faces between 30 days and five years of incarceration and a fine of between $500 and $50,000. If the term of incarceration is less than one year, it would be in the Flathead County Detention Center. If it is longer, it would be in the Montana State Prison.
His next hearing is set for May 7.
