Woman running out of time admits felonies

A Las Vegas woman is facing an eight-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty by way of Alford to a pair of felonies.
Donna Ramey, 50, entered the pleas recently in Flathead District Court to charges of criminal endangerment — reduced from driving under the influence — and issuing a bad check.
Those charges involve two cases. A third case alleging felony elder abuse and felony forgery for redirecting more than $3,700 of her mother’s pension checks to herself was dismissed.
Ramey, who is suffering from terminal liver cancer, had undergone a chemotherapy treatment the morning of the hearing. She claimed that the allegations against her were untrue but she was accepting conviction to take advantage of a plea agreement so she would not have any jail time.
She testified during the hearing that it was possible she could be convicted and sentenced to jail if she went to trial, and said that if she went to trial she likely would die.
“I just don’t have the time to find out,” Ramey said.
A sentencing, which will likely be held as a video conference, is set for April 24.
