An unintended consequence of attack on clinic

The senseless invasion and destruction at All Families Healthcare, presumably carried out because abortion procedures are performed there, graphically illustrates the more radical side of the anti-abortion campaign.

Should this crime result in the permanent closure of Susan Cahill’s clinic, it will have a very different impact than intended. As they have done throughout recorded history, women who seek to terminate a pregnancy will find a way to do so; they will, in spite of increased expense and inconvenience, simply go to where the service is available.

The true impact will be on the many patients who receive their care at this clinic, with needs unrelated to abortion, who will now need to find a different provider. Having worked closely with Susan for several years, I can attest that her practice includes many patients who, for whatever reason, have encountered challenges obtaining care elsewhere.

It is indeed regrettable that all the effort expended by those who oppose abortion isn’t directed more productively.
