The Met: Live in HD series continues on the big screen with the Met’s acclaimed new production of Massenet’s “Werther.” Richard Eyre, whose hit production of Bizet’s “Carmen” remains the most popular broadcast since the series’ inception, returns to direct the first new Met production of Werther in more than 40 years.
The live transmission will be shown in Kalispell at Stadium 14 Theatres on Saturday at 10:55 a.m. Encore broadcasts will be at Stadium 14 on Wednesday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m., and at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m.
Star tenor Jonas Kaufmann sings the title role of the tortured poet. French mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch makes her Met debut as Charlotte, the object of Werther’s unrequited love, in a cast that also includes Lisette Oropesa as Sophie and Jonathan Summers as Le Bailli. Alain Altinoglu conducts.
The Met: Live in HD series will reach an audience of approximately 3 million people across 1,900 theaters in 64 countries. The 2013-2014 HD season continues with three more live transmissions — Puccini’s “La Bohème,” Mozart’s “Così fan tutte,” and Rossini’s “La Cenerentola.”
