Rain leads to soft roads, mudslides

BONNERS FERRY — Warm temperatures and rain combined with melting snow to soften roads and hillsides across Boundary County.
Between March 1-10, the National Weather Service recorded 3.49 inches of rain in Boundary County.
With Fleming Creek overrunning Fleming Creek Road in multiple places, and the hillside along District 2 road sliding by the Union Pacific railroad tracks, County Incident Commander Bob Graham requested an emergency declaration from the Boundary County Commissioners but that was denied on March 6.
The emergency declaration is for something the county can’t handle on its own, said Commissioner Dan Dinning. “It appeared to us like the county could handle this,” he said.
