COEUR d'ALENE - Fortunately, firefighters are used to working long shifts.
The Coeur d'Alene Firefighters Pipes and Drums St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl on Saturday has 15 stops - including downtown's St. Patrick's Day Parade.
More than a dozen pipers and drummers - mostly firefighters - will be roving performers Saturday, starting at 11:45 a.m. at Mad Bomber Brewery in Hayden, and visiting several pubs and restaurants before and after the parade.
"St. Patrick's is our big event," said Carrie Andrews, administrative assistant for the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department. The group will be playing for tips Saturday to help fund the purchase of kilts, instruments, reeds and drum heads.
The parade - with a theme of "When Winter's Dreams Become Summer's Magic" - begins 4 p.m. at Eighth and Sherman and continues west along Sherman Avenue.
