Class AA state boys: Bengals knock out Glacier

BILLINGS — Helena High took advantage of a poor offensive third quarter by Glacier to post a 53-39 victory over the Wolfpack in consolation play at the Class AA state boys basketball tournament on Saturday morning.

Helena outscored Glacier 11-2 after the half to take 35-25 advantage into the fourth quarter.

It was the third meeting this season for the two Western AA foes. Glacier had won the previous two.

McBride Galt tallied 12 points for the Bengals. Henry Garrett added 11 and Chase South 10.

Bryan Michaels had 15 for Glacier and Evan Epperly 12.

Glacier finished the season with a 12-12 mark. The Wolfpack went 1-2 at state.

Glacier entered state play as the No. 3 seed from the Western Division.

Helena went on to claim third place, beating second-ranked Billings West 44-36 in the consolation final.

Top-ranked Helena Capital claimed the state championship, defeating No. 3 Missoula Hellgate in the final, 51-47. Carson Dummer and Hunter Belo led Capital with 16 points each.
