Moses Lake falls to Bulldogs in shoot out

MOSES LAKE - A 2-0 halftime lead, a 3-0 second half lead, four total goals and a loss?
Despite leading Ellensburg 3-0 early in the second half, Moses Lake boys soccer eventually fell against the Bulldogs in a shoot out, 5-4.
"Any time you score four goals you want to win a soccer game," head coach Bill Bertram said. "Our defense had a pretty good lapse there about halfway through the second half ... It was a learning experience for everyone."
Andrew Camren got the scoring started early, finding the back of the net just four minutes into the match. Adrian Vasquez followed with his first of two goals 27 minutes into the first half.
Vasquez scored his second minutes into the second half and a 3-0 lead seemed insurmountable.
But Ellensburg caught fire and scored three goals in just over 10 minutes and briefly took a 4-3 lead late in the match.
"We had a perfect storm of errors it seemed in the second half," Bertram said. "We didn't do the simple things and got caught a little confident. We made some errors and we had plenty of opportunities, just didn't capitalize."
Camren was able to score the equalizer on a penalty kick with just minutes remaining in the match.
The teams elected to move straight to penalty kicks and Ellensburg was able to prevail, 5-4.
Bertram was level headed after the loss and knows that his team has some time to work out the kinks of moving some players to different positions before league play begins.
"We got caught pushing up a little bit on defense a little bit too much thinking that maybe there was some more goals to be had if we pushed up and we addressed that a little bit," he said.
The Chiefs will face Lewis and Clark 6 p.m. Tuesday at home.
