Academic all-state
Six Columbia Falls student-athletes were named academic all-state for the second quarter — freshmen Storm Kemppainen and Winfield West; sophomores Gabriel DeLorme and Tristin Steinwand; and juniors Ike Schweikert and Cody Walters.
Les Schwab Shootout
Whitefish High School will host the annual Les Schwab Shootout on Tuesday, March 25, at 4:30 p.m. in the high school gym. Several schools in the Flathead will send two boys and two girls to compete in free throws, three-pointers and a dunk contest.
Concessions stand
Columbia Falls Baseball is looking for any individual with an interest in operating the concession stand for the upcoming season which kicks off April 21 and runs through July with games on most weekdays and weekends. Spring soccer
The Flathead Rapids soccer club will hold its 8-week long Spring Academy program on April 15 through June 7 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Register online at www.flatheadrapids.com. Deadline is March 22.

Roller derby
The Flathead Valley Roller Derby Misfits will close out the 2013-2014 home season with a bout against the Gallatin Roller Girls in the Trade Center building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 22, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the bout at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door and free for kids 12-and-under. The Misfits will conclude their season at Spokarnage, a 3-day double-elimination tourney in Spokane, Wash., in April. Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
