A Whitefish man has denied stealing from the home of a Flathead County deputy recuperating from a serious traffic accident.
David Lamb, 32, denied allegations that he stole from Robert Brauer. Lamb pleaded not guilty in Flathead District Court to felony theft.
According to a court document, Lamb allegedly stole a mountain bike, a firearm and numerous tools while doing work on Brauer’s home while Brauer was being treated at hospitals in Washington and Montana. Most of the items were found at First National Pawn in Kalispell; receipts reportedly show they had been pawned by Lamb.
Lamb later allegedly admitted taking several items from Brauer’s home and pawning them to spend the money gambling.
Brauer was seriously injured while driving up U.S. 93 in August last year.
Lucy Beard has been accused of striking Brauer’s vehicle head-on on Aug. 3, 2013. Brauer suffered a broken left femur, left tibia, right heel, right kneecap and right wrist. Most of his left foot was crushed.
He nearly bled to death.
If convicted, Lamb faces up to 10 years in the Montana State Prison and a fine of up to $50,000 as well as restitution.
Lamb initially was incarcerated in the Flathead County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $20,000, but he was later released on his own recognizance.
Lamb’s next hearing is set for April 9.
Beard pleaded not guilty to felony negligent vehicular assault. Her next hearing is set for May 7.
