Mother pleads guilty to child endangerment

A Kalispell mother has pleaded guilty to charges after driving drunk with her 5-month-old and 10-year-old children in the vehicle.
Jessica Dimler, 29, entered the pleas Thursday in Flathead District Court to felony criminal endangerment and misdemeanor drunk driving after having initially been charged with felony criminal child endangerment.
Two Montana Highway Patrol troopers stopped Dimler on Oct. 8, 2013, after receiving a report of a possible drunk driver in the area of U.S. 93 and Montana 40.
Dimler failed several field-sobriety tests during the stop and troopers also found a glass of orange juice inside the vehicle that both smelled like and tested positive for alcohol. Her 10-year-old daughter told the troopers she was frightened by her mother’s driving.
Although Dimler only admitted during Thursday’s hearing that she had been drinking prior to driving, a court document states she also admitted having taken morphine and hydrocodone and using marijuana prior to driving. She reportedly had prescriptions for all of the drugs.
During Thursday’s hearing, it was indicated that Child and Parent Services had looked into the incident before dropping its investigation.
At the request of Dimler’s attorney, Flathead District Judge Ted Lympus ruled that she be released from the requirement that she participate in the 24/7 Sobriety Program — which involves twice-daily breath-alcohol tests — pending her May 13 sentencing.
