MOSES LAKE - An Ephrata man was recently convicted of furnishing alcohol to minors at a party in 2012 where a 20-year-old man died of alcohol poisoning.
Tyler Harmon, 23, faces up to a year in jail after he was found guilty of furnishing alcohol to minors at a Dec. 30 bonfire party at an Ephrata home.
The next morning, police and first responders were called to another home on Road 1.5 Northwest after Daniel Carter, 20, was found unresponsive and not breathing. Carter, an Ephrata High School graduate, was reportedly dropped off after drinking heavily at a party the night before. He began vomiting and passed out on the floor.
A resident at the home noticed Carter still on the floor. Carter died from acute alcohol intoxication, according to court records.
During the investigation, detectives found that moonshine was available at the party and it was made by the residents where the party happened. Harmon admitted during the investigation he helped make the alcohol.
An eyewitness, who was also a minor, testified that Harmon gave alcohol to him and Carter.
Harmon reportedly told investigators he tried to hide and destroy the alcohol before law enforcement arrived.
